Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an increasingly popular orthodontic device that’s used to align your teeth. Categorized as aligners, Invisalign can be preferred over braces since they’re transparent and far less noticeable. This type of orthodontic device involves a series of customized, tight-fitting retainers that slip over your teeth, encouraging them to shift into alignment.

Can anyone get Invisalign?

Invisalign is more beneficial for teens or adults. Since children’s teeth and mouths are still developing, tight-fitting retainers may not be effective in the long term. Dr. Baek also uses clear orthodontic aligners such as Invisalign for patients with only mild or moderately crowded teeth, or minor spacing issues. Severe crowding or spacing may require a more complex treatment method.

How does Invisalign work?

After examination, Dr. Baek will devise a plan for shifting your teeth and correcting your bite. With Invisalign, Dr. Baek fits your teeth for a series of retainers that are designed to straighten out your teeth over the treatment period. These retainers are made from a clear plastic or acrylic material and meant to be removable when eating, brushing, or flossing. You’ll typically go through each retainer in the series every few weeks until your teeth reach alignment. Dr. Baek will suggest check-up appointments about every six weeks.
The treatment period can last anywhere from 10 weeks to 24 months depending on the situation of your teeth. If you only need slight adjustments, it can take a minimal amount of time. The more your teeth need to move or rotate, the longer it’ll take.

What are advantages of the Invisalign system?

When compared to other teeth-straightening options, the Invisalign procedure provides many benefits that make it the world’s most advanced clear aligner system:

  • Treats simple to complex cases
  • Predictable, controlled tooth movements
  • Virtually invisible
  • Removeable
  • No injuries from broken or sharp wires and brackets
  • Easier to notice results at each stage of treatment
  • Fewer necessary office visits

The main advantages of the Invisalign system are comfort and convenience. The trays are smooth and comfortable to wear, and even removable. You also don’t need to worry about gum or mouth irritation that commonly arises with braces.
